Greenschools Update
Following two years of tremendous efforts walking and cycling to school and encouraging our families to do the same, we finally were granted our 4th Green Flag.
The award ceremony took place in the Croke Park Conference Centre on Wednesday the 24th of May.
The committee was represented by Jack Cautley and Sarah Dent-Cullen. We were treated to a fine lunch before the award ceremony. It was a most enjoyable day.
Well done to the Committee and all the pupils of St.Anne’s and their families.
Green schools Update
We are once again nearing the assessment date for our 4th Green Flag, the theme of which is ‘Travel’.
WOW
Early last year we set up a W.O.W. Day, which means Walk On Wednesday. This was to encourage as many children as possible to walk to school. This action has been very successful with many classes showing spectacular improvements. This has been helped in no small way, by our Walking Bus organised by an energetic group of parents.
COW
This year we added Cycle On Wednesday (COW) to our Green Flag activities. There are some keen cyclists and we hope as the weather improves ,to see many more children using their bikes to get to school.
This Spring we hope to introduce cycle training in St.Anne’s. We have been in touch with Bray Wheelers who may be able to help us out. Watch this space!
Garden News
In 2010 we also set up our first organic gardens with help and advice from Ogie Ryan, our caretaker. As summer approached potatoes, carrots and onions were to be seen sprouting up everywhere. We were even able to use some of our very own compost to help things along. We didn’t have to worry about water bills with the harvested rainwater from our water barrel. It will soon be time to plant for this year’s crop!
